Ralf Lichtenberg, awarded film and advertisement composer of Mexican-German heritage currently lives and works in Los Angeles. Ralf first began playing the piano at the age of six in his native Austria. He also joined the famous Austrian children´s choir “Gumpoldskirchner Spatzen” and performed with the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera) in concerts in Germany and Austria. Ralf performed solo parts in the Wiener Kammeroper (Vienna Chamber Opera) and he shared the stage with the Three Tenors (Plácido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, José Carreras), Sarah Brightman, Patricia Kaas, Alejandro Fernandez, The Scorpions and others. At the age of ten Ralf first discovered his passion for percussion and clarinet, attending specialized music high schools in Vienna largely focused on classical music. Not satisfied with merely playing the notes provided to him, Ralf began improvising music, mainly on the piano.

As a young adult, Ralf moved to Mexico, performing in various bands as a drummer. His preferred styles at that time were metal and alternative/progressive rock. This is when he first began composing and writing his own songs, initially in secret and for his own enjoyment only. His interest in and zeal for classical, orchestral music and film scoring induced him to study music theory and composition under Eduardo Cota in San Luís Potosí, México.

Ralf graduated with degrees in psychology and music therapy in 2011. He returned to Vienna, enrolling in the “School of Entertainment and Technology” to study his lifetime desire “media composition”, concentrating exclusively in classical music, film scoring and music for advertising. After graduating, Ralf was encouraged by Chris Young and the “Hollywood Music Workshop in Vienna” to move to Los Angeles to study at the UCLA film-scoring program under the tutorship of Charles Bernstein, Brian Ralston, Charles Fernandez, Tom Sharp and Tim Davies among others.

His unique combination of Mexican Latin rock-percussion-experiences and his Viennese classical music background next led him into specializing in composing orchestral music and rock-pop-style for scoring films and commercials. Projects that featured Ralf’s work have won multiple national and international awards including Gold at the “International Independent Film Awards”, best short movie at “LAIFFA”, best composer at “Sunscreen Film Festival” and have been screened at Film Festivals in Toronto, Guadalajara and Cannes. Ralf’s music is best described as painting vibrant sound-pictures, creating intense feelings, and enveloping his listeners in a musical atmosphere that evokes strong emotions such as fear, excitement, passion, mystery and love.
